Michele Hue

Michele encompasses over 20 years in the hospitality industry, within this time she learnt the importance of guest focus and her passion for the industry. Michele has progressively learnt every role in a restaurant, lounge and banquet setting whenever the opportunity presented itself.
Her love of the business has also brought her many guest compliment recognitions. Graduating in 2004 from The Vancouver Community College with a diploma in Hospitality Management she was also awarded a Scholarship from the Hospitality Foundation sponsored by Pepsi. Michele holds her WSET Level Two in Wine and Spirits, and is currently working on her Leadership Certificate from Cornell University.

Milestones Restaurant Bar & Grill was her first stepping stone towards her management role in the Hospitality Industry. The extensive training learning all the roles of the Kitchen and Restaurant gave her the tools to understand the importance of mentoring and championing the systems and standards in her management role.

Michele moved to the Fairmont Hotels started as an Assistant Outlets Manager, managing Griffins Restaurant, assisting in 900 West Lounge, In Room Dining and the Refreshment Center. Within a year Michele was promoted to an Assistant Banquet Manager, executing high end events such as The VGH & UBC Diana Krall Gala, Diamond Ball, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation Ball. Most recently Michele had the opportunity to proudly host NBC, Google, The US Olympic Committee and Royal Bank of Canada for the Olympic Games here in Vancouver.

To be good isn't good enough for Michele; she consistently strives to be the best in whatever situation Michele finds herself in.

Ria Nevada

Ria Nevada is originally from the Philippines, and moved to Canada in 2004 to pursue her Bachelor's degree in Cultural Studies. After graduating from McGill University in 2007, she leapt into a career in education, providing business professionals with Customer Service and ESL training at Sitel Telecommunications.

However, Popular Culture, Film and Entertainment remain to be her passion. Upon moving to Vancouver in 2008, she became an active member of local film organizations and music publications. She has volunteered her services for the Vancouver International Film Festival and Pacific Cinematheque. Additionally, she has been a steady contributor for Guttersnipe News, constantly reviewing bands and musicians who make their way up to the city. She looks forward to sharing her interest in the study of cultural texts with her students.

Heather Runje

Most recently Heather has spent the last 4 years at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver in Human Resources. Prior to her time at the Fairmont, she spent 2 years working in Human Resources with Royal Caribbean International and 3 years at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Georgia.

Her professional background in training includes 10 years as a trainer within the hospitality and tourism industry. Certification in Human Resources and Adult Learning Methodology. Member in training organizations - American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) and Council of Hospitality and Restaurant Trainers Association (CHART). Trained from customer service to regulatory programs, to leadership courses. She believes in experiential learning and applies activities that simulate real situations for maximum learning.

Andreea Ricardo Torres

Andreea Ricardo Torres, originally from Romania. Andreea has worked in the Hospitality field for twelve years, with many years working for Carnival and Silver Seas Cruise lines. Currently Andrea is the Executive Housekeeper at Le Soleil Hotel, which is a boutique hotel on Hornby Street.

Andreea has earned Hospitality Management Certificates and has been certified on Food Safety Sanitation Procedures and Train The Trainer from the USA. Andrea has also recently been certified as a Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) trainer and has joined IHMC to teach the WHMIS course to our students.

Robert Lemkay

Robert Lemkay has over 15 years of Hospitality experience and has worked in a number of leading hotel companies including Westin Hotels, Canadian Pacific Hotels (now Fairmont Hotels) and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.

Robert grew up in the resort region of Muskoka, where he worked in a number of area resorts and restaurants.

Over the last 12 years, Robert has had the opportunity to work many hotel departments from Housekeeping and Front Office, to Accounting and Guest Services. He was a part of the of the opening team at The Westin Resort and Spa, Whistler, and an employee, among many, to work for one of the oldest and well known properties in Canada, The Banff Springs Hotel. He has served at a luncheon for her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the II, and most recently played the role of a private butler for a high profile family.

Robert's most recent position was Hotel Assistant Manager with the Four Seasons Hotel Vancouver, and completed his degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management at Canadore College in North Bay, Ontario.

Ted Dichupa

Ted has over a decade of experience in the hotel industry. After a number of years at the Coast Plaza Suite Hotel, Ted worked as a Night Manager / Auditor to becoming one of the Managers on Duty. He went on to open the Sandman Vancouver Airport. He also assisted in the installation and training of staff with the new Property Management System - one of his career highlights. His last position at the Empire Landmark Hotel as the Front Office Manager saw him overseeing the operations of not just the Front Office, but the Security and Housekeeping departments as well.

Susan Powell

With over 16 years of experience at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Georgia in the Food and Beverage division, Susan was responsible for running the restaurant, lounge and in-room dining. She is well qualified to teach students about the inner workings of food service operations and she combines her extensive Food & Beverage knowledge with her restaurant management experience to conduct highly interesting and informative classes and workshops. In addition, she also instructs students on the operation of the Squirrel Point of Sale system, which is an integral skill of restaurant service employees.

With her extensive knowledge of hotel operations, management and hotel work experience, Susan has developed contacts with first class hotels in Vancouver to provide meaningful and exciting practicum work opportunities.

Tia Hass, Hospitality Consultant

Tia has been involved in Hotel / Food and Beverage industry for over 20 years. She began in the industry in her hometown of Renfrew, northwest of Ottawa in a family-owned food service operation. It was this employment opportunity which solidified her choice of a career in the hospitality industry. Her love for travel, meeting new people, and discovering the pleasures of food and beverage was a perfect fit for managing food and beverage operations within a hotel environment.

After graduating from the George Brown School of Hospitality in Hotel Management, Tia immediately went to work as a restaurant supervisor for L'Hotel, Toronto, a Canadian Pacific Hotel and Resort (this company is now known as Fairmont Hotels in Canada). On her travels from Toronto to Vancouver she has had the privilege of working with many fine hotel companies such as Delta Hotels and Resorts, Renaissance, Marriott, Sheraton, and most recently Crowne Plaza. The positions she has held range from Executive Committee member for a food and beverage division, Catering Director, Director of multi-unit food and beverage operations to a server / bartender / dishwasher, all important positions within a hotel environment. During her career, the most enjoyable aspect was always designing, developing and executing training programs for her employees. Most recently she has become an independent consultant within the industry enabling her to spend more time with her young family.

Tia believes motivated people, who truly enjoy the experience of human interaction are the backbone of the hospitality industry. She also holds "leadership and mentoring" as cornerstones to successfully cultivating the spirit of hospitality. Currently Tia is pursuing an MBA with a focus on Human Resources at the University of Phoenix. 

Tia is a member of the faculty of the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute.

David Wei, Program Instructor

David brings eight years of expertise in management, customer service and support to IHMC. David's strong academic background began with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, which led to his attainment of a prestigious MBA from Johnson and Wales University. These academic achievements have been built upon with the completion of a number of hospitality specific training courses including the Super Supervisor Certification courses in Fine Hotels Corporation.

David's professional career began as Night Manager of the Holiday Inn, Brookline, Boston, MA. Here he gained valuable experience dealing with the intrinsic operations of managing a large downtown hotel, which set him on his career path in Hospitality. Career progression led David to the position of Assistant Guest Services Manager in the award winning Crowne Plaza Hotel Georgia, where he utilized his skills and knowledge of the hotel industry to train, develop and evaluate staff.

David is a member of the faculty of the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute.

Jerry Allen, BFA, MFA

Jerry Allen's expertise in the education field is both extensive and wide-ranging. He received his graduate degree from the University of British Columbia in the department of Art History, Visual Art and Theory.

Jerry has lectured on visual art for over two decades as well as moderated several public forums in art history, visual culture and political theory. Along with his expertise in the field of culture and lifestyles, Jerry is a professional visual artist with a national and international exhibition history.

As one of the curriculum directors for the Culture Studies in the Advanced Diploma Program Jerry brings two decades of expertise to this important and rapidly expanding field of study. In addition to his employment at IHMC Jerry provides design and editorial consultation services for the visual arts.

Juliana Eng

After studying English Literature at the University of British Columbia, Juliana has been working with a Hotel Ownership / Management group as an event management specialist in charge of organizing cultural events and a trainer for employees working in the event planning and management department since 1995.

Juliana has been a member of the Board of Directors at the Contemporary Art Gallery in Vancouver since 2002, and is currently the President of the Board of Directors at the Gallery.

Juliana also started a non-profit program in 2005 with the Contemporary Art Gallery and WATARI Research Association called Arts 101. It is an artist mentoring program for youth-at-risk.

Romy Herrera

After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and having attained his Certified Public Accounting certification, Romy worked as a management consultant and auditor for Arthur Andersen for five years with prestigious hotels such as the Westin, Hyatt, Sheraton, Holiday Inn and the Hilton. He also worked for clients to develop system/procedures of improvement and recommends internal control and hotel operation procedures. 

Romy is presently working as Financial Controller for the Listel Hotel Vancouver. Previous to his current position, Romy displayed his versatility and comprehensive knowledge of the hotel industry by competently undertaking such positions across North America as: General Manager, Executive Assistant General Manager, Corporate/Regional Controller, Director of Finance, Operations Analyst, Food and Beverage Controller, and Audit and Accounting.

In addition to his demonstrated skills and talents working in hotels, Romy also teaches and trains employees and hospitality students. He has developed and delivered workshops and seminars on food and beverage cost controls and introductions to hospitality accounting.

Romy has been a member of the Hotel Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP) since 1990, serving as President of the Southern Alberta Chapter from 1991-1993, Treasurer from 1996-1998, then moving to BC and serving as Treasurer and Secretary for the BC Chapter from 2005-2008. He currently holds the position of Controller for the Coast Coal Harbour Hotel and is also serving as President for the HFTP BC Chapter. Romy also teaches at the Imperial Hotel Management College where he has been instructing since 2003, conducting Hotel Accounting training and workshops.

With 25 years of extensive hotel industry experience, Romy is a valuable member of the Imperial Hotel Management College faculty since 2003, conducting Hotel Accounting training and workshops. 

Myriam Chong, B.A.(Educ.), DMATP

Myriam's experience in education includes 6 years as a teacher in secondary schools in the Far East and 1 year in Vancouver, plus a total of 7 years as Principal of a Catholic Mission school in Singapore. From 1995 to 1999, She was a senior lecturer in the Department of Hotel, Service and Tourism Studies with the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education, preparing secondary school graduates in a three-year hospitality management course for a Higher Diploma.

From 1981 to 1994, Myriam was Director of Human Resources and Training in a Vancouver four-star hotel. Currently, she is an independent consultant.

Myriam holds a B.A. in Education, and is a Distinguished Member, Association of Tourism Professionals, B.C. since 1993.

Roy Grossman, F&B Management Specialist

Roy has many years of experience in Food and Beverage Management in major hotel/resort properties, up-scale casual dining operations, as well as food and beverage consulting services. This includes 2 years experience managing a highly successful "Up-Scale Casual" restaurant operation with annual revenues of 4 million, and 11 years multi-outlet management experience in Five and Four Diamond hotel properties.

Roy has worked as a Restaurant Manager at Pan Pacific Vancouver Hotel, Food and Beverage Services Manager at Delta Pacific Resort and Conference Center, and Development Manger at Milestone's Restaurants. Currently, he is a Food and Beverage Consultant.

Roy is a member of the faculty of the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute.

Jack Hansen, Sales & Marketing Specialist

From the late 70's to the early 90's, Jack was employed as General Manager at a range of hotels across British Columbia. Jack was the Regional Director of Sales for Western Canada, Best Western International Inc. from 1987 to 1989, and was Sales Manager of Grand Okanagan Resort Accommodations Whistler, Best Western Baker Street Inn Nelson, and Comfort Inn on Kingsway, Vancouver for the past 10 years. His specialty is Sales and Marketing. 

Teresa Alampur, Sommelier

With over 14 years of professional experience, Teresa has worked in both Restaurant and Hotel Management. Her hospitality career flourished at the George Brown Culinary Institute where she first took the chef pre-apprentice program before attaining her Food & Beverage Management Diploma graduating in 1999. She received her sommelier accreditation from the International Sommelier Guild in 2003, and is currently studying the Wine & Spirit Trust Diploma at Vancouver's renowned Dubrulle International Culinary College.

Teresa has organized several successful Wine Programs which have been held in some of the most prestigious restaurants in Toronto and Vancouver. She has most recently held Wine Director/Management positions for Canoe Restaurant & Bar in Toronto, Araxi Restaurant & Bar in Whistler and the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver's 900 West Restaurant & Lounge. Her passion, fresh approach and personal charisma are a welcome addition to our IHMC team.
